Karen Phillips went into the beauty industry at the grand age of 17 back in 1976, doing her training at The Delia Collins School of Beauty Therapy in Knightsbridge London. Having qualified with distinctions in all subjects I was then asked to join the staff at The Delia Collins Institute in Beauchamp Place Knightsbridge London.
Having worked in London for 3 years I decided it was time to return home to Worcestershire and start my own business. I opened the first Karen Phillips Beauty Clinic in Droitwich Worcs in 1980 which I built up to be the biggest and most successful salon in the area. I discovered Shapemaster Toning Tables in 1985 and opened the 1st Shapers Toning Salon in the area which eventually merged with the Beauty Clinic.
Although highly qualified in all areas of Beauty Therapy I enrolled on an Acrylic Nail Training course and after many months of practicing became quite an expert, which led to me becoming a trainer for a nail company. In 1996, after much persuasion from my peers I entered the National Nail Competition at Olympia and much to my surprise I won. I entered again the following year and won again, this then led to me becoming a judge on the competition circuit.
Sadly in 2005 my back gave in and suffering with 2 prolapsed discs and in severe pain, I had to give up work and have major surgery with 6 months recuperation. This is when I decided a warmer climate and a slower pace of life would be the answer.
I arrived in Spain in 2007 and after 3 ½ years and 3 house moves finally settled in Quesada in November last year.
It soon became apparent to me that there was a definite lack of professionalism in some of the salons I visited and worked in. Where they may excel in certain areas, failed dismally in others. Client care and a relaxing comfortable atmosphere is paramount in any salon, but this is something so often overlooked.
By chance I came across a salon that had closed down back in the summer, Palms Toning Salon of Pueblo Bravo, and immediately fell in love with the premises and could see the potential they had.
Within a week I had bought the premises and after a few minor adjustments I opened on March 8th. Over 250 people came to the open evening and a good 50% booked treatments in advance.

Working alongside me is Lindsay Seaber, a Nail Technician and Beauty Therapist in the Quesada area, and Val McIntyre, an Aromatherapist and Beauty Therapist.
